End of the World and Christmas Party

One of the restaurants in town decided to have and End of the World and Christmas Party on December 20th.  Reservations were required and it's a good thing because the place was packed for both seatings.

Some of my dinner mates.  You hear me talk about Jack and his email list all the time--well, that's Jack up close and personal.  Now you have a face to go with the name.

One of the things I love about Casi Olivias is the mural painting on the walls.

Our host, Rudolpho, offered several toasts...

one of which was to a man who was born in Oklahoma City on the day of the bombing back in 1995.  Now there's a claim to fame I don't think I'd want to have.

Our chef and sous chef mugging for the camera.

Ah, that's better.  The meal was fabulous, the company was bun, and a good time was had by all.

  1. Hi Cynthia
I've read your entire blog. I became interested in Ecuador a short time ago, but after reading several blogs began to wonder if a solo female could find a satisfying social life and if personal safety was to much of a problem in Ecuador for expats. You are an inspiration. You seem to be adapting very well on all fronts. I am interested in Cuenca and Cotacachi. I hope to meet you when I come to Ecuador for my exploratory trip. Nita N.

    1. I'm so glad you're thinking of relocating here. If you are comfortable with the differing lifestyles and culture here, you'll do great as a single woman. I recently told a few people that I've made more friends here in the last 10 months than I did in the States in the last 10 years but that's not really accurate--it's more than I think I may have made my entire adult life. Of course that sounds pretty dramatic but I moved a great deal--never lived anywhere more than 3 years and most places far less--so I was constantly making new friends. The people here are, indeed, looking for connections with other people with whom they resonate and there's someone for everyone.

When you come on your exploratory trip are you going to do it on your own or do you have a tour in mind? If you haven't already taken a look at them, I very highly recommend Ecuador Expat Journeys (http://www.ecuadorexpatjourneys.com/). They have not only the best price around but the very best people leading it. I really need to do a blog post about them!

I look forward to meeting you when you're in Cotacachi.
